Multisport Family Adventure
A multisport adventure designed for families with active teenagers to experience countless outdoor activities in Costa Rica. Feel the adrenaline rush as you plunge through rapids on the Pacuare River, glide through the canopy on a zipline, ride the curl of a breaking wave and explore a secluded beach by horseback. Encounter rich wildlife as you kayak a jungle river, hike in Corcovado National Park and snorkel the reefs off Cano Island. Soak up Costa Rican culture as you meet the outgoing local Ticos, sample their delicious cuisine and enjoy native music and art. This adventure offers families flexibility, the chance for teenagers to enjoy some independence and the opportunity for everyone to relax, have fun and try new things together.
DAY 1 : ARRIVAL Welcome at San Jose's Juan Santamaria International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Drink in the warm air and easygoing atmosphere, take a swim in the pool, relax for the evening and let your cares slip away. Overnight at Hotel Alta, Bougainvillea Santo Domingo or similar. [Meals on own]
DAY 2 : DELUXE PACUARE RAFTING TRIP The adrenaline will be racing today as you tackle the exhilarating Class III and IV Pacuare River white water. Not only will you be in for a wild ride but you will be awed by the beautiful gorges, serene pools, rushing waterfalls and variety of wildlife in this primary rainforest. The Pacuare River is often rated as a top five rafting river for its combination of exuberant scenery and exciting rapids. Your expert guides will give you a thorough safety talk and paddling instruction before the boats are launched. This is a safe and fun trip for all, as long as you bring your spirit of adventure and don't mind getting a bit wet. Water level permitting, a guide will lead you on a hike up one of the many creeks that spill into the Pacuare. Upon your return, find a gourmet lunch prepared by your guides turned white-gloved waiters. Float and paddle downriver to the take-out in the Caribbean town of Siquirres where towels and a victory cocktail await. Drive back to San Jose where you'll receive a complimentary photo CD of your trip. Overnight at Hotel Alta, Bougainvillea Santo Domingo or similar. [BL]
DAY 3 : OFF TO THE OSA PENINSULA Leave the city behind as your plane heads south to the wild and lush Osa Peninsula. Touching down at the airstrip you are immersed in mangrove forest. Be prepared to take your shoes off as you may get wet hopping into the boat which takes you along the Agujitas River and to your lodge situated on a high bluff. Settle into your comfortable refuge, admire the panoramic view of Drake Bay, take a swim, look for shells, simply lie in a hammock or explore the Agujitas river and surrounding Drake Bay by kayak. Overnight at La Paloma Lodge or similar. [BLD]
DAY 4 : CANO ISLAND SNORKELING Put on your bathing suit, lather on the sunscreen and set out to discover life underwater. A quick boat ride takes you to Cano Island, once the home of ancient Indian kings and bloodthirtsy pirates, today a Biological Reserve. Surrounded by schools of colorful fish, snorkel the coral reefs around the island looking for rays, moray eels, octopus and turtles. Take a break, dry off and dig into the great picnic lunch your guide spreads out under the coconut palms. There is plenty of time to hang out on the beautiful beach, do some beachcombing, try a different snorkeling spot, read a book or hike up to the burial grounds. Overnight at La Paloma Lodge or similar. [BLD]
DAY 5 : CORCOVADO NATIONAL PARK Grab your hiking shoes and hop on board the launch for the short trip to the ranger station at Corcovado National Park. Head out on a guided hike though mangrove swamp to montane forest looking for many of the 400 species of birds, 116 species of amphibians and reptiles and 139 species of mammals that call Corcovado home. Cross your fingers and you may see a Harpy eagle, a big cat or a crocodile! Hungry and tired after hiking? Eat lunch at the ranger station and relax on the beach before returning to the lodge. Overnight La Paloma Lodge or similar. [BLD]
DAY 6 : BEACH TO BEACH - ZIPLINE CANOPY TOUR Leave the lush tropical rainforest as you fly back to San Jose. A local representative will meet you at the Pavas Airport to assist you with baggage adjustments and in connecting with an additional domestic charter flight to the more arid, but equally beautiful Northern Pacific Coast. Your secluded beach resort offers not only an incredible natural setting but lots of rugged adventures. In the afternoon, get a bird's eye view of the canopy roaming through the trees on a zipline. Play a quick set of tennis and cool off in the ocean side pool, the cliff top infinity pool or the pounding surf. Enjoy a cool, fruity concoction at the swim up bar and delicious international cuisine in the 50-foot thatched roofed restaurant. Check out all the available activities and start to think about what you want to add for the next few days. Overnight Hotel Punta Islita or similar. [B]
DAYS 7-8 : HAVE FUN!! SURFING LESSON AND HORSEBACK RIDING Sleep in or never go to bed. Heed the call of the waves and join a surfing lesson with an experienced instructor at a non-crowded beach perfect for first-timers. The next day toss on a pair of jeans and mount your horse for a relaxed two-hour ride gallop along the beach and to the hilltop for a privileged view of the ocean cove. The rest of the time you are on your own to do as much or as little as you like, enjoying the many activities you can arrange locally (additional activities not included). Looking for thrills and adventure? Ride the mountain trails on an ATV trek, or hop in a kayak and explore the Pacific Coastline or a jungle river. Want to see more of the surrounding area? Hike the endangered Tropical Dry Forest discovering the secrets of surviving with very little water. Eager to experience the unique Tico culture? Visit the neighboring villages and explore the Community Open Air Contemporary Art Museum, a celebration of culture and heritage through art. Simply want to relax? Book a massage or mud wrap at the spa or take a siesta in a seaside hammock. Overnight Hotel Punta Islita or similar. [B]
DAY 9 : TRAVEL HOME Invigorated and relaxed, catch your short flight back to San Jose and drive to the International aiport for departure. Try to pretend that you are still on vacation and don't worry about anything on the trip home. [B] IMPORTANT: This last day you need to book an international flight back home no earlier than 10:30 a.m. for us to be able to connect the domestic flight with your International flight.
