Bosque de Paz, Bajos de Toro Amarillo

Distinctive simplicity and exceptional Costa Rican hospitality within this 3,000 acre private nature reserve in the Central Highlands create an unparalleled accommodation for ecologically-oriented travelers. Rivers and waterfalls flow through valleys and mountains covered in dense forests festooned with bromeliads, mosses, orchids and ferns. The reserve protects a rich set of ecosystems, precisely because of its privileged location between two national parks. Located on the continental divide, the terrain includes both Pacific and Caribbean slopes with altitudes ranging from 4,700 to 8,000 feet above sea level. Eleven spacious rooms, each with two large double beds, private bath and hot water, are surrounded by landscaped gardens, hummingbird feeders, and butterfly gardens. Owners Federico and Vanessa Gonzales, our gracious Costa Rican hosts, are active conservationists. Your trip includes a guided hike through both rain and cloud forest offering a dazzling array of flora and fauna, including a great possibility of viewing the Resplendent Quetzal. Numbers of visitors are controlled so we recommend it as a more accessible and secluded cloud forest experience compared to Monteverde.
