Manta Resort and the Underwater Room

The Manta Resort offers something different from most tropical islands - it's not just about five-star luxury. Switch off the noisy, polluted electronic world and enter a completely different one, not as a tourist, but as a guest with simple needs: sunshine, fresh air, natural food, a comfortable bed and friendly company. Their Underwater Room is also the coolest place to spend a night in all of Africa. This room is actually a private floating island with your bedroom twelve feet below the surface of the Indian Ocean. The landing deck, at sea level, has a lounge area and bathroom. A ladder leads up to the rooftop lounge, perfect for sun worshipping by day and wondering at the Milky Way by night. Sleep under the stars to the soft murmuring of the sea or head below for an experience unlike any other. A short ladder descends to your soft double bed and glassed-in 360 degree views of reef fish, bat fish and even a resident trumpet fish called Nick! By night, the glow of underwater spotlights attract squid. Octopi and Spanish dancers attach themselves to the glass panes or the anchor chains holding the room in place. Guests typically spend two nights in a Sea Front Villa and one night in the Underwater room. The villas are spacious, private and air-conditioned with en-suite bathroom. They also each feature a secluded ocean-facing sun terrace which affords magnificent sunset views. Snorkelling, diving, deep sea fishing, dhow trips, and kayaking are all possible.
