Turkey:
A Crossroads of Civilizations
Wildland Adventures takes you from the modern age and into the ancient past discovering authentic travel opportunities in Turkey on routes used by ancient silk and spice traders between Europe and the Far East. Turkey was a land coveted by many conquerors, each successive empire leaving its mark on the culture, folklore and way of life of today's Turkish people. While twenty-first century Turkey has become a modern, secular and western-oriented republic, the grandeur of Asia Minor predominates over contemporary influences, especially outside the sphere of the hustle and bustle of resorts and hotels. Small groups and private trips for individuals and families are arranged to classic ruins and hinterlands where you experience the living history of Turkey surviving through old customs, gracious hospitality and exquisite cuisine in picturesque villages.

Jordan and Beyond
October 27, 2007 10:00am
A sinking sun turns the Dead Sea to flaming crystal, and shadows lengthen Hadrian’s pillars at Jerash plunging the “…Rose Red City half as old as time…” into rich, deep ochres. From modern Amman to the serene beauty of Wadi Rum, Jordan traverses the spectrum of the modern and ancient, and abounds with reminders of its deep historical importance. Discover Roman Jerash along the ancient Kings Highway, Byzantine Madaba and Mt. Nebo to Crusader and Arab Castles and, of course, Nabaetean Petra, which ranks alongside the Taj and the Pyramids as a must-see for the serious traveler. Although a modern nation offering high levels of hospitality and comfortable facilities to the traveler, Jordan also presents spectacular active outdoor adventures in Wadi Rum and SCUBA diving in the Red Sea. Wildland Adventures’ Middle East Program Director, Adrian Chalker, shares his decades of experience leading tours throughout Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Israel, Morocco, and Iran. See Jordan in pictures and learn how your experience can be broadened to include Israel and Egypt.
