Letter from the Director
VOTE BY VACATION

Kurt KutayHere’s another way to cast your ballot this season: travel. We make a statement when we go on vacation. We buck the fear and intimidation of travel today and re-establish our individual place in the world by reconnecting with nature, marveling at our ancestry at ancient sites, and connecting with local people who come to know us as caring and interested Americans no matter what our personal political persuasion or the agenda of our government.

As travelers we become self-appointed ambassadors of good will. And when we embark on a journey with an open heart and mind, we are inspired by the hope we share with others and we return home with renewed faith in ourselves. We discover what other cultures can teach us and find ways that we can give back in return like the many conservation and community development projects our travelers support. (See the related story. Maasailand Safari featured in “The Cultured Traveler.”)

So after you submit your ballot November 2nd, get out and vote by vacation. Call us to plan your next Wildland Adventure in 2005. We’ve included some of our top picks in this newsletter.

Wildest Regards,

Kurt Kutay
Director

Amazing Accommodations!
TURKEY: CAVE HOTEL AND VILLAGE STAYS

Turkey is known for its abundant and impressive ancient sites, beautiful landscapes, complex and exotic culture, and its gourmet cuisine, but visitors are most impressed by the gracious hospitality of the Turkish people. On a Wildland Adventure in Turkey you’ll be staying with our Turkish friends in some of the most charming and memorable accommodations. In Cappadoccia, Haydar Hykar is our host at his amazing Elkep Evi Cave Hotel built into the side of a mountain. Mujde and Sevan Nisanyan have preserved several small homes in the historic village of Sirince in the coastal hills above the ancient Roman city of Ephesus. They host us at their Nisanyan Evleri Guest Houses, a five-room inn and three comfortable furnished houses where we wake up to the daily routine of a small peaceful village.

Great Guides!
BELIZE ADVENTURES

Our Belize guide staff has just doubled! Sam Tillet, our Master Naturalist Guide and Belize field coordinator, is now joined by our newest guide, Esperanza Guitan. She is the most accomplished female wilderness guide, cave explorer and wilderness rescue responder in Belize. Having led the British army on jungle training expeditions, Esperanza now dedicates herself as a licensed naturalist guide leading our group, family and custom trips throughout Belize. Sam is recognized as one of the best naturalists and bird watching guides in Belize by Moon Publication’s, The Belize Handbook. Together, Sam and Esperanza will host you the first night in Belize at their village guesthouse in the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary.

Heart-to-Heart Connections
EAST AFRICA MAASAILAND SAFARI

Although nature, wildlife and archaeology are often the most anticipated experiences on a Wildland Adventure, our travelers often discover it is the heart-to-heart connections from authentic cross-cultural encounters that are the most meaningful and lasting memories of their trip with us. Check out this feature story about our Maasailand Safari in a recent issue of the online publication: The Cultured Traveler. This exclusive travel experience is the result of a unique partnership between Wildland Adventures and the Maasai Environmental Resource Coalition to offer active and inquisitive travelers the rare opportunity to experience authentic Maasai culture while exploring the great game parks of East Africa.
