Hotel Monasterio in Cusco
CondeNast Traveler Magazine has voted Cusco's Hotel Monasterio as the 5th best hotel in the Caribbean/ Latin America region. This charming, centrally located hotel is a refurbished 400-year old former monastery, with two serene inner courtyards, lots of beautiful colonial era artwork, excellent service, and a fabulous breakfast buffet. The Monasterio certainly deserves the accolade. While providing you with the comforts and quality of a modern five-star hotel, it is the only museum hotel where you can experience a blend of Cuzco's Inca and Spanish traditions. The Monasterio is operated by the international Orient Express hotels, which also runs the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge up on the mountain at the entrance to the world famous ruins. Guests who stay at the Monasterio in Cusco have priority to reservations in the Sanctuary Lodge at Machu Picchu.

Beyond Cusco and Machu Picchu
Peru is more than Cusco and Machu Picchu. Although trekking and jungle camping trips are limited to Peru's dry season from April through November, travelers to Peru from December to March will enjoy fewer tourists on our lodge-based trips. Although overcast and somewhat rainy in the Andes and Amazon, you'll find deliciously sunny and warm weather on the coast of Peru, where it is summer. Visit the impressive pre-Inca archaeological sites near the cities of Trujillo and Chiclayo on the northern Peruvian coast including Chan Chan and the tomb of the Lord Of Sipn. On the southern coast, interesting sites include the Nazca Lines and wildlife-rich Ballestas Islands. A little farther inland in the south, and blessed with a relatively dry climate year-round, is the charming city of Arequipa, with its famous Convent of Santa Catalina, the most beautiful complex of colonial-era buildings in all Peru. It's only a few hours overland to the mighty Colca Canyon, one of the world's deepest gorges, a breathtaking natural setting where you encounter traditional native cultures wearing traditional embroidered apparel, and observe huge Andean condors flying above and below. Of course, you can travel to Machu Picchu any time of the year by train undeterred by occasional rain showers.
