National Geographic Awards 50 Tours of a Lifetime for Turkish and Greek Islands Adventure Voyage
WILDLAND ALSO SELECTED AS A "FAMILY TRAVEL PRO"
Seattle, Wash--For a third year, another Wildland Adventure has been selected as one of National Geographic Traveler magazine's 2009 Tours of a Lifetime as featured in the May/June 2009 issue. And, in a separate story in the same issue, Wildland Adventures was also selected as a family travel pro. Both recognitions were for Wildland trips in Turkey.
Every year, the editorial team combs the world to find the most authentic, most innovative, most immersive, best-guided, and most sustainable tours, notes senior editor Norie Quintos.
This year National Geographic Traveler picked a new Wildland Adventure in its category of classic tours. "Voyaging Among the Dodecanese of Turkey and Greece" is a 12 day exploration by sea and by land for $4,195 all inclusive in-country. Participants spend their days hiking, swimming, sailing, exploring Greek and Turkish villages, discovering ancient ruins, sampling delectable Turkish and Greek cuisine and sipping excellent wine, ouzo and raki. New customs procedures have eased inter-island, international travel between the Greek Dodecanese and the Aegean coast of Turkey, making it possible for guletstwo-masted wooden sailboatsto avoid the busy harbors. The focus is on offbeat sites such as the Turkish village of Turgut, where guests are invited to share sage tea and honey with locals.
Recommending that families put their trip planning in the hands of pros, National Geographic editors also endorsed Wildland Adventures after interviewing Wildland traveler, Penny Putnam, ...who was looking for a trip that would engage her and her husband, both history buffs, and their then 13-year old son who needed action. They found it on the Turquoise Coast Odyssey, a trip that combines snorkeling over sunken coastal ruins, hiking to archaeological sites only accessible on ancient footpaths from the sea, and staying overnight in a local village home.
The other 50 Tours of a Lifetime in Wildlands portfolio of adventures include the Kenya Maasailand Safari: Living Among the Maasai (2006) and Undiscovered Belize Adventure (2007).
