Two Great Choices for Capturing Migration in the Serengeti

Adrian Chalker

Whether an aspiring photographer or someone who simply dreams of safari, those who join Wildlands 11 day Photo Safari: Life on the Savannah with Lorne Sulcas, will have unlimited opportunities to capture images and create memories they will cherish for years. Master naturalist, safari guide, wildlife photographer and former game ranger, Lorne Sulcas, leads this exclusive African photo safari specifically designed for novice and experienced photographers alike. Participants have the opportunity to photograph in the best game parks of Tanzania including the Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and Tarangire during one of the most lush and green seasons of the year. Participants will experience vast herds of game spread over the plains, which also attract an abundance of lion and cheetah. Expect to see hundreds of wildebeest or zebra calves just a few hours old, with good chances of witnessing a birth. The contrast of occasional clouds and Spring-like showers in an otherwise clear blue sky, the bright sunlight and deep shadows, vibrant greens and the distant mountains together create unsurpassed photographic opportunities.

Based in lodges and permanent tented camps ideally situated for seasonal access to wildlife during the great migration, participants travel in retrofitted stretch 4 x 4 Land Rovers fully equipped with window seats and open hatches, assuring unencumbered wildlife observation and photography. A flight from Serengeti back to Arusha minimizes driving time. Departure dates are February 20th through February 29th, 2008. Priced from $4495 per person; land cost based on group size.

On Wildlands 9 day Ngorongoro Walking Safari , join Maasai pastoralists to hike Ngorongoros rim and safari through the great Serengeti. In January and February the plains are verdant, teeming with life as the vast herds of zebra and wildebeest gather and prepare to give birth. Kambona Ole Tirra Mollel, a highly skilled native Maasai tracker and Tanzania safari guide will lead this footloose journey. From the Olduvai Gorge, we hike through dry river beds and gullies, skirting massive rock formations and on to the vast savannah, where Wildland adventurers have a rare opportunity - to camp amidst the mass herds of game and witness up close and personal the spectacle of the annual migration. Departure dates are February 16th through February 24th, 2008. Priced from $2350 per person; land cost is based on a maximum group size of 9-12 persons.

Optional extensions to the spice island of Zanzibar or an additional safari in Kenya are available.
