Into Maya Land, Trip of a Lifetime
National Geographic Traveler magazine selected our Undiscovered Belize as one of 50 Tours of a Lifetime ranking Wildland Adventures as providing the highest quality experiences in the most interesting locations, using the most sustainable of tourism practices.
You've heard of Belize's laid-back cays and inland jungle resorts, but the southern Toledo District has largely been out of the tourist track until the recent paving of the Southern Highway opened access to the region. Beside the road, one can find a couple of very fine ecolodges that provide comfort and amenities set in beautiful natural environs teaming with wildlife. Adventurous activities abound in the area, including swimming in underground caves! Our newest Belize adventure features plenty of what the country is known for, rain forest hikes, birding, caving and snorkeling on the Barrier Reef...but also a glimpse of Toledos vibrant Mayan culture, including a visit to the ancient Maya site of Lubaantun and an indigenous family-run organic fair-trade Mayan cacao plantation.
