Conde Nast's Green List Awarded to Wildland
In an international survey of environmentally-conscious travel companies, Wildland Adventures was selected for Conde Nast's prestigious Green List in recognition of our commitment to preserving natural habitats and contributing to local cultures while providing
enriching travel experiences. Wildland was one of only four adventure travel companies to receive this prestigious award. In particular, our Maasailand Safari in Kenya and Tanzania is recognized as among the most meaningful and rewarding community-based safaris in Africa.
Time Magazine recently noted, ''Wildland Adventures has developed a sort of cross-cultural exchange program with the nomadic Massai in East Africa whereby the Africans receive direct benefits from tourism and guests are exposed to the tribe's culture." These tenets are the basis for how we craft our itineraries throughout the world.
Developed in partnership with the Maasai Environmental Resource Coalition, (MERC) our safaris in Kenya and Tanzania provide unique opportunities for the indigenous people and travelers alike. In addition to personal encounters with Maasai people, travelers enjoy game drives in the national parks and reserves of Amboseli, the Maasai Mara and a private ecotourism camp on land leased from a local Maasai community at the base of Mt. Kilmanjaro.
Since the first Maasailand Safari in July of 2003, Wildland Adventures and its guests have donated more than $30,000 to MERC through out of pocket contributions from individual travelers and a share of revenue collected from trip fees and company profits. In turn the local communities share in the economic benefits of tourism and have an alternative model to the destructive social and environmental impact of conventional safari tourism on their land. We are very proud of our efforts to reform ecotourism in the Maasai Mara to create a more equitable relationship with the Maasai people while enhancing our travelers' experience.
