Avian Influenza Update
MD Travel Health
Spread of Avian influenza (bird flu) has now spread to a large number of countries in Asia, Europe, and Africa. Cases have been reported among birds in Austria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Croatia, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nigeria, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, and Vietnam. A small number of human cases are being identified, but almost all are occurring in those who have had direct contact with infected animals. There is no evidence at present that the virus has acquired the ability to pass easily from person-to-person.
