Reservations on Inca Trail Now On First Come Basis
If you are planning to join a Wildland Adventure along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu from March through October 2007 book your trip now to secure your preferred dates. New trail management regulations limit the number of people allowed on ancient archaeological trail each day. Permits are sold on a "first-come, first-served" basis only, so booking early is essential. Permit costs are $85 per person ($55 for the one-day hike), must be paid in advance, and are non-refundable, non-transferable. Reserve early or ask us about alternate trekking routes.
Inca Trail Trek and Amazon
No more than 500 trekkers, guides and porters are allowed on the trail per day. We get a jump ahead of the group every day because we camp the first night at a small hacienda near the trailhead and then start trekking the next day long before the train arrives tounload the next day's group of trekkers.
These are the advantages of the ''Wild Style'' on the Inca Trail:
- The first day we arrive near the trailhead we stay at our comfortable hacienda camp on the Urubamba River with hot showers and flush toilets.
- This provides the advantage of an extra day of acclimatization by hiking with llamas to the sacred Inca site of Q'ente on a little-known side trail.
- The next morning we arise early to begin trekking long before the train arrives to unload tourists, so we are ahead of the others and get the best selection of campsites each night!
- Upon arrival at Machu Picchu we stay at the lovely Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, or we can request an upgrade to the Sanctuary Hotel (but space is very limited).
We are required to submit your name and passport number with an$85 permit feeto government officials in order to purchase your Inca Trail permit. The same regulations apply to purchase a $55 permit fee for those planning to do the one-day hike into Machu Picchu beginning at Km. 104.
An ongoing increase in tourism to Peru also necessitates early reservations at least 6 months in advance.Space fills early in many preferred accommodations throughout Cusco, the Urubamba Valley, Machu Picchu and rainforest lodges of the Amazon in Tambopata and Manu.
