Living with Elephants
The Living with Elephants Foundation was founded in 1999 by Doug and Sandi Groves and their three adopted elephants, Jabu, Thembi and Morula. Doug and Sandi have striven to find ways in which their foster elephants can act as ambassadors for their wild counterparts. Annually, the foundation offers hundreds residents of neighboring villages the opportunity to touch, feel and walk with Jabu, Thembi and Morula in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Immersed in the world of the African elephant for two days, ten children at a time, aged between 9 and 12 years, along with two adult chaperones, participate in active educational games and share in discussions, art and music. They learn about the natural history, ecology and behavior of the African elephant, their complex relationships with people, and explore actions that encourage a more positive relationship with elephants.
On our Walking with Elephants adventure, Wildland travelers can spend the morning interacting with these amazing creatures. Watch a preview of this extraordinary experience below.
