Custom Trip Planning in Costa Rica
Many of our travelers prefer to design their own private Costa Rica tours for their family and friends, or a romantic adventure for two, and we enjoy designing custom trips to fit your interests, time, style and budget. Our resident Costa Rican Tica, Grettel Calderon, staffs our Central America field office based in San Jose, Costa Rica. She is one of the most knowledgeable and proficient Costa Rica travel planners in her native country. She has over 15 years experience in nature tourism designing Costa Rica ecotours including 5 years as our in-country Costa Rica travel agent. You benefit from her in-depth knowledge and frequent weekend field reconnaissance trips check the newest accommodations, various parks and reserves, and native communities you can visit on a Wildland Adventure.
We custom design itineraries throughout the world that offer the same high standard of services that we use on our scheduled small group adventures with guidance on the ground from our Costa Rica tour guides to help you with each leg of your trip. We help you create your own tours in Costa Rica based on your preferred standard of accommodations, travel dates, and the recommended amount of time to spend at each location along the way. On a 10-day Costa Rica ecotour well help you plan an itinerary that takes you into several different regions and ecosystems usually including rainforests, volcanoes, cloud forests, and beautiful tropical beaches where you will see plenty of wildlife and have opportunities to meet local people. Along the way well plan any number of activities based on your age, ability and interests including rain forest hikes by day and at night, zip lines through the forest canopy, white water rafting, mountain biking, snorkeling, easy sea kayaking, horseback riding, surf lessons, spa, bird watching, village visits, and much more!
Planning this type of custom Costa Rica travel package does involve more time and we typically charge 5-10% more for custom trips than we would for the same trip offered as a group departure shared among 8-12 people. An average budget is typically from $200-350 per adult, per day, all-inclusive depending on the style of accommodations, number of internal flights (also whether they are private charter vs local scheduled flights), and whether you prefer a private master naturalist guide or use our specialist Costa Rica tour guides in each region. You will find real value in the personal service we provide, our expert knowledge, and all the Costa Rica travel tips we apply to designing your trip, and in the final itinerary carefully tailored to your own interests.
If you know generally the kind of Costa Rica adventure tour you want, and if you have specific places you want to travel in Costa Rica or accommodations you want to use, Grettel can design an itinerary that suits your interests that will work with the best logistics to maximize your time in the field rather than traveling or re-routing you through the city.
Peak season for travel in Costa Rica is December through April, the driest time of the year. If you are planning Costa Rica travel during this period, especially over the December holidays, spring break or public holidays, it is best to make your arrangements up to one year in advance to secure preferred lodging, especially for Costa Rica family tours.
