Ecuador and Galapagos. Haciendas of Ecuador [Currently Not Active]

Arrive in Quito to see the beautiful colonial architecture and the Equatorial marker before traveling to the Ecuadorian highlands. Visit artisan villages and the homes of Otavalo Indians to see their intricate textiles. At Hacienda Zuleta you may choose to hike, horseback ride, or take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the grounds. Overnights are at Patio Andaluz and Hacienda Zuleta. 

We browse in Otavalo, Ecuador's most famous Andean market village with colorful stands and Otavelenos in their native dress. Spend the afternoon soaking in the Papallacta hot springs and the following morning hike to Laguna Limpiopungo at the base of the Cotopaxi volcano. Keep an eye out for Andean condors. Overnights are at Termas Papallacta and Hacienda San Augustin de Callo, a working ranch built on the site of a former Inca palace.  

Our second market visit is in Sasquili. Though not as large as Otavalo, the Saquisili market is flooded each Thursday with locals from surrounding villages bartering animals, agricultural products and handmade items. Spreading out over 8 plazas, this is an opportunity to participate in an authentic cultural experience. Continue south to the edges of Ecuador's rainforest at Luna Runtun, a beautiful spa-resort. The following day may include hiking, mountain bike riding, rafting, or an easy stroll through wild orchids and waterfalls. Overnights at Luna Runtun.  

One last morning in Banos is followed by a return drive north to Quito. Spend the evening at our lovely botique hotel before your departure home the following morning. Overnight is at Patio Andaluz.
