Best of Namibia Adventure
Soar over the stark landscapes of Namibia on this fly-in safari. Namibia is a land of stark contrasts, from the Atlantic Ocean to the depths of the Namib Desert to the life-sustaining springs of the dry Etosha pans. Haunting shipwrecks dot the landscape between sand and sea on the aptly named Skeleton Coast. Stunning views greet you from the tops of enormous sand dunes in warm sunset hues after a challenging morning climb in Sossuvlei. Learn of the specialized adaptations of wildlife in these harsh environment including rhino, springbok, oryx, and the rare desert elephant. Spend each night on this Namibia safari in comfortable lodges and tented camps where the days activities are discussed by a campfire under a blanket of stars. Maximum group size is 8 people.
DAYS 1-2 : THE NAMIB DESERT Arrive into Windhoek by 10:00 am to meet the light aircraft charter to Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp, approximately an hour's flight. The camp is located in one of the most remarkable sites in the Namib Desert, where huge towering dunes rise more than 1000 feet above the surrounding plains. The Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp is a craggy collection of rock, brick, timber and thatch where each room has a plunge pool and beautiful views of the surrounding desert plains. Days here are spent in the beautiful landscapes of Sossusvlei, with excursions to the sand dunes and the "vlei" itself, a prehistoric landscape where dry trees stand guard over extinct pools that once held rainwater. Optional early morning ballooning can be arranged at extra cost. (To be arranged in advance). DAYS 3-4 : SWAKOPMUND, WALVIS BAY, SKELETON COAST Fly over the dunes of the Namib and Sossusvlei continuing westwards onto the Atlantic and then up the Skeleton Coast. The flight offers spectacular desert scenery where the dunes and desert meet the ocean. Glide over shipwrecks to Sandwich Harbor where flamingoes dot the lagoons. Then fly east up the Huab River to Damaraland Camp. Here early morning mists drift inland, providing sustenance to a diverse array of flora and fauna. Highlights of our stay are nature excursions into the rocky desert in search of springbok, oryx and ostrich as well as the rare and endangered desert elephant and desert-adapted black rhino. Overnights at Damaraland Camp. [BLD]

Covering an area of 10,000 square miles, Etosha is one of Africa's largest game parks; th park encompasses an area nearly the size of Switzerland. Large herds of plains game concentrate around the waterholes in the dry season making for exciting game viewing. Species that can be seen year round include elephant, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, springbok, oryx, kudu and the diminuative Damara dik-dik. Birding in this area is exciting with ostrich and raptors in abundance. Local specials include the short-toed rockthrush, Hautlaubs francolin, rockrunner, Ruppells parrot, white-tailed shrike and chesnut weaver. Ongava Private Reserve is of the few places in Southern Africa where you have the chance of seeing both Black and White rhino. You will have the opportunity to track White rhino on foot, a highlight not to be missed. Ongava Reserve also has a good population of lion, eland, mountain zebra, black-faced impala and a number of other antelope species.
