The Parched Kalahari
Visit the infamous Kalahari Desert on this four day exploration that perfectly complements a visit to the aquatic haven of the Okavango Delta. Uniquely desert sights include shimmering mirages, elegant gemsbok on the dusty pans and desert-adapted black-maned lions. Visit Nxai Pans National Park, where you can see Baine's Baobabs and the fossilized grasslands of the pans. Your accomodation is in comfortable tents with shared facilities.
DAY 1 : NXAI PAN NATIONAL PARK Depart from Maun for a 4-5 hour drive south through small villages and into the Nxai Pan National Park to our prepared campsite. The Adventurer camp is designed to be close to nature with dome tents, beds on GI stretchers and shared bathroom facilities with one bathroom and shower for two tents. Keep your eyes open for the cheetah that love to hunt in the open grasslands. Overnight Adventurer Camp. [LD]
DAYS 2-3 : NXAI PAN NATIONAL PARK The Kalahari Desert penetrates the arid woodland of northern Botswana, producing stunning desert scenes ideal for photographers. You have the opportunities to see these desert adapted species on the fossilized grasslands and pan system of Nxai Pan National Park, along with the historic Baines' Baobabs. These enormous and ancient baobab trees were painted by the explorer Thomas Baines in the late 19th century.
The dry season animal concentrations are enjoyed on drives that explore the areas surrounding the shallow pan systems and isolated waterholes. Islands of stunted acacia dot broad savannah and provide shade for predators such as cheetah and lion, while specialized species as diverse as meerkats and springbok thrive on the plains. Overnights Adventurer Camp. [BLD]
DAY 4 : DEPART After an early breakfast you wil leave this remarkable land as you travel by road back to Maun and your departing flight. [B]
