Exploring Mahale Mountains National Park is a complete experience in nature, wildlife, and relaxation, and is an ideal add-on to any safari in Tanzania. Spend time trekking for chimpanzees and enjoying activities on Lake Tanganyika including snorkeling, fishing, and kayaking.

DAY 1 :  FLY TO MAHALE
Fly from Arusha to Mahale Mountains National Park where you'll be met and transferred by boat on Lake Tanganyika to Kungwe Beach Lodge. [LD] Please note: The flight departs Arusha at 8:00am.

Watch both juvenile and adult chimpanzees on a chimpanzee trek in Mahale Mountains National Park.

DAYS 2-3 :  MAHALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
Nearly 1000 square miles, Mahale Mountains National Park is comprised of fourteen vegetation zones ranging from the shore of Lake Tanganyika to the summit of Nkungwe Peak, over 7000 feet high. This variety of forests, mountain, and lake habitats provide shelter to diverse species including warthog, porcupines, and at least 9 species of primates including around 1000 chimpanzees. Wildlife viewing on land is combined with opportunities to fish, swim, snorkel, and kayak on Lake Tanganyika. 

On the shores of Lake Tanganyika, Kungwe Beach Lodge has 10 tented rooms raised on wooden platforms. Each tent has running hot and cold water, ensuite flushing toilets, and electricity. Included in your stay are two mornings spent chimpanzee trekking, a fishing or birding excursion by boat, and guided walks in the forests surrounding Kungwe. Overnights at Kungwe Beach Lodge. [BLD]

DAY 4 :  RETURN TO DAR ES SALAAM
Spend a last morning at Kungwe Beach Lodge before boarding your scheduled flight back to Dar Es Salaam, arriving in time to catch your evening departure home. [B]
