Sinya is an exclusive safari camp on Maasailand established as an ecotourism concession in cooperation with the local Maasai communities. Situated in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro in northern Tanzania far removed from other safari camps and vechicles, the spectacular acacia woodland landscape features magnificent views of Kilimanjaro and is critical habitat to huge bull elephants with massive tusks that migrate between the wetlands of Amboseli National Park in Kenya and the forests of Sinya. Safari activities here include game drives in open vehicles, and bush walks escorted by Maasai warriors. Interaction with the local Maasai, including village visits and possibly to the local market or cultural ceremonies, are more intimate and authentic in contrast roadside cultural encounters around national parks.

DAY 1 :  ARRIVAL AT SINYA
Depart from Arusha and drive about 3.5 to 4 hours North to the Sinya Reserve. Youll have the option of a walk or a game drive this afternoon, and youll overnight at Kambi Ya Tembo. Kambi Ya Tembo is a collection of permanent tents set on a ridge, all with great views of Kilimanjaro. Each tent is on a raised platform to catch the breeze and has an enclosed shower and ensuite toilet. Food at Sinya is plentiful and is served family style along with beer, wine, and sodas, which are all included in your stay. Overnight at Kambi Ya Tembo. [LD]

DAYS 2-3 :  FULL DAYS IN MAASAILAND
Choose from walking with Maasai warriors or game drives with your guide in a 4x4 Land Cruiser. Wildlife in Sinya is rich in herbivores such as zebra, wildebeest, Thomsons and Grants gazelle, and Maasai giraffe. Sinya lies in the southern range of gerenuk and is one of the only places in Northern Tanzania to see them. This is one of the few areas in East Africa where huge elephant bulls are regularly seen and often walk right through camp! These bulls, some more than 50 years old and carrying tusks of considerable size, migrate between the wetlands of Amboseli National Park in Kenya and the acacia woodlands of Sinya in Tanzania, adjacent to the forests of Kilimanjaro where the elephants go in search of food and water. The bulls living permanently in Sinya, together with herds of mothers and calves, form one of the healthiest and most balanced elephant populations of the whole African continent and are under intense scrutiny by wildlife biologists.

The Maasai are one of the few indigenous people of the world that have reached the twenty-first century with their traditional culture virtually intact. The Maasai living within Kenya and Tanzania still follow cultural patterns that other tribes abandoned long ago. With the advent of modern life, Maasai face the challenging task of improving their life conditions while maintaining the traditions that preserve their way of life. On walks with local warriors youll learn about medicinal plants and the techniques the Maasai use for survival in the bush. Depending on the day you will also have an opportunity to visit the local market (usually on Saturdays) the local school, or a Maasai village. Just ask your guide and he can make it happen for you. Overnight at Kambi ya Tembo. [BLD]

DAY 4 :  DEPARTURE

Depart Sinya today headed back to Arusha or to the Kilimanjaro international airport for your departing flight. [B] Please note: If you are departing from Nairobi we can also arrange a transfer into Kenya, travel time is about 4 hours.
