Belize Honeymoon
Our Belize honeymoon adventure takes you from the jungles and Mayan ruins of Tikal to the barrier reefs of the Caribbean. Explore the inland rain forests, lakes and ancient Maya ruins of Tikal and plunge into the largest barrier reef in the western hemisphere. Unwind together at La Lancha, Francis Ford Coppola's Guatemalan retreat and at the Turtle Inn, his Balinese-style private beach paradise, where coconut palms, mangroves and rainforests meet the tranquil waves of the azure Caribbean near the village of Placencia. Luxury amenities, spa treatments, fine dining and adventures on land and sea await each day on any Wildland honeymoon in Belize. We can also recommend many other jungle ecolodges and beachfront cabanas to create your own Belize honeymoon adventure.
DAY 1 : ARRIVE BELIZE/GUATEMALA Arrive Belize City International, pick up your bags and proceed in the same terminal to your domestic flight to Flores, Guatemala. Meet upon arrival in Guatemala and transfer to La Lancha, a beautiful Francis Ford Coppola property set high above Lake Peten Itza. The casitas are perched overlooking the lake and the island town of Flores. Howler monkeys move through the jungle canopy surrounding the hotel where birds thrive and small forest animals such as gibnut and agouti are frequently seen. Kayak around the lake or relax around the freshwater swimming pool. Dine under a thatched palapa on authentic Guatemalan cuisine and enjoy a romantic sundowner in the open-air bar serving Coppola Estate wines. After dinner, return to your candle lit casita or enjoy an after-dinner drink overlooking the lake. Luxuriate in your Lakeview or Rainforest Casita with a two person hammock on the porch, walk-in shower, hand made soaps, local art and luxurious linens. La Lancha Resort. [no meals]
DAY 2 : TIKAL AND THE JUNGLE Rise early and drive an hour to the ruins of Tikal. The morning is a spectacular time to observe parrots, toucans, guans and oropendulas flying over the canopy and monkeys cavorting in the awakening rain forest. Over 285 species of birds have been identified here including toucans, hawks, motmots and parrots. Frequently seen are Howler and Spider monkeys, coati, peccary and deer. The elusive jaguar and ocelot also survive in this pristine rain forest habitat. Investigate the ancient ruins of Tikal. At its height, the population of Tikal was estimated to be 100,000 individuals residing over a 25-square-mile area. A local Maya guide will illuminate the archaeology and culture of Tikal as you explore pyramids soaring above the jungle canopy and innumerable multi-leveled palaces, ball courts, plazas, temples, terraces, shrines and carvings. Enjoy a lunch and time on your own in the ruins before returning to La Lancha for the evening. Overnight at La Lancha Resort. [CB,L]
DAY 3 : FREE DAY AT LAKE PETEN ITZA Rise at your leisure this morning and enjoy breakfast overlooking the lake and the mountains of Guatemala. Today is free to choose from the many optional activities at La Lancha including kayaking or canoeing on the lake, exploring the nearby markets in Flores, bird watching and/or horsebackriding at the Ixpanpajul Canopy Walk or simply relaxing by the pool or in your hammock. Overnight at La Lancha Resort. [CB]
Note: Optional activities at an additional cost.
DAY 4 : THE CARIBBEAN COAST - TURTLE INN Transfer to the Flores airport for your flight to the Caribbean beaches of Placencia, Belize. Upon arrival transfer to the Turtle Inn amongst the gentle sea breezes, white sand, and a sea the color of aquamarine, sparkling in the sun. This Francis Ford Coppola beach hotel is designed in Balinese style with spacious rooms covered with palm thatching. Each room has a private garden with outdoor shower and screened porch cooled by ceiling fans. Enjoy the afternoon swimming in the warm Caribbean outside your cabana and lounging in the pool, then enjoy delicious seafood and Italian specialties in the open air dining room. Overnight at the Turtle Inn. [CB]
DAY 5 : BELIZE BARRIER REEF Awaken to the sound of the gentle surf quietly lapping at the shore of this tropical Eden. Spend the day exploring the barrier reef with a resident guide including lunch on a palm-fringed sandy island such as Laughing bird Caye. Snorkel among an impressive array of colorful tropical fish, graceful stingrays, harmless nurse sharks and spectacular brain and hydrocorals, sea fans, feather plumes, sponges, and sea cucumbers. Overnight at the Turtle Inn. [CB]
DAYS 6-7 : FREE DAYS IN PLACENCIA Spend the days in unstructured bliss. Relax at the Inn, take in a massage, or sign up for any of the locally guided excursions that might include snorkeling, SCUBA diving, spin and fly fishing, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, bicycling, a float trip on the Monkey River, the Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary, or a visit to the village of Placencia. (Activities not included) Enjoy dinners on your own at the Turtle Inn or try one of the other resorts or restaurants along the Placencia Peninsula. Overnight at the Turtle Inn. [CB]
