Adventure Vacations from the Experts

Amazon Extension

Parrots congregating near mineral deposits are just one of the myriad of species that flourish in the Amazon.
Years of close cooperation with the Aangu community has produced the Napo Wildlife Center, an innovative project that is as remarkable for its comforts as it is for its conservation and social value. The protected area is home to such species as the Jaguar, Giant Otter, Tapir, eleven species of monkeys (including acrobatic Spider and Wooly monkeys, Monk Saki, and Golden-mantled Tamarin), and many brilliant bird species.  Here the local Aangu community has teamed up with international conservationists to create a private reserve of over 50,000 acres within the Yasuni National Park.

Travel by canoe to a comfortable eco-lodge set on the bank's of the Napo River.
DAY 1 :  COCA - NAPO WILDLIFE CENTER
Transfer to the Quito airport (included) for your brief flight to Coca, an outpost on Ecuadors Rio Napo in the Oriente of the Amazon basin. A 2 hour motorized canoe ride will take you to a private dock belonging to Napo Wildlife Center, where you have the option of a 2 hour hike through the rainforest to the lodge, or a 1-2 hour paddle by canoe through a meandering tributary.  Arriving at the lodge, enjoy a welcome beverage and receive orientation about the activities to come.  Overnight at the Napo Wildlife Center. [BLD]

Daily excursions led by local naturalist guides provide an in-depth, first hand experience of this complex ecosystem.
DAYS 2-4 :  NAPO WILDLIFE CENTER
Your naturalist guide will accompany you on a variety of adventures in this remote reserve. Napo Wildlife Center occupies an 82 square mile portion of Yasuni National Park.  With two nearby parrot licks and a canopy tower, you will have a myriad of opportunities to view some of the 550 species of birds, 11 primate species, and even giant river otters.  Overnight at the Napo Wildlife Center. [BLD]

DAY 5 :  QUITO
Get up early today to paddle or hike back to the Rio Napo and return to Coca for your flight to Quito. Upon arrival, remain at the airport for international departures or transfer to Patio Andaluz for an overnight stay (included). [B]
