San Blas Islands
The proud Kuna of the Comarca de San Blas are a self-governing
people who have resisted modernization and change. Stay
in a native-designed, thatched-roof bungalow on the idyllic islands
of San Blas and learn
about the government and cultural systems of the independent
Kuna. Learn how they brew chica, the local drink, and watch the
women
embroidering their beautiful molas, the native craft
icon of Panama.
Bocas del Toro
Discover the tropical beauty, serenity and joy of Bocas
del Toro in this laid-back and natural corner of the Caribbean.
Its just a short flight from Panama City where you can spend a
few extra days snorkeling or SCUBA diving over pristine coral reefs
of Bastimentos Marine National Park, hiking on island rainforests
in search of birds, monkeys, turtles and colorful poison arrow
frogs, or exploring mangrove forests by motorized dugout. Enjoy
the fresh, creole seafood and take in some lively calypso music
in the evening!
Darien
Straddling the land bridge between North and South America,
the protected rain forests of the Darien National Park
contain some of the most unique, diverse and abundant wildlife
of Central
America. Although the most remote wildlands of Darien
near the Columbia border are off limits due to lack of security,
there are
two areas of the Darien that are safe and available to
nature travelers: the Punta Patino Nature Reserve on the Pacific
Coast and the Cana
Research Station nestled in the foothills of Darien National
Park.
Punta Patino
Visit an Embera village along the Mogue River and hike
in a tropical dry forest based from the Punta Patino
Research Station. Search for capybara, iguanas, sloth and other
wildlife including
an active Harpy Eagle nest, the most powerful winged
predator in the world.
Cana Field Station
Our four-night Cana extension takes you to the heart of
one of the most unexplored rain forests in Central America.
Hike in primary rain forest and cloud forest with a naturalist
guide
in habitat of four species of macaws, white-lipped peccary,
tapir, spider monkey, many endemic species of birds and jaguar. |
