Adventure Vacations from the Experts

Copan, Honduras
Renowned for its sculptures and hieroglyphs, the ancient Maya city of Copan was a principal cultural center, advanced in its development of sculpture, astronomy and hieroglyphic writing. Explore the Copan ruins with an expert guide walking among temples, open plazas, a well-preserved ball court, and a stunning hieroglyphic stairway featuring the longest text discovered in the Maya world. Underground tunnels take you beneath temples to examine reconstruction and preservation work. A museum houses the largest collection of Maya sculptures and the life-size replica of a temple reveals Maya architecture and burial chambers as uncovered by archaeologists. Nestled in the mountains of western Honduras, the town of Santa Rosa de Copan is a respite of cool mountain climate, fine colonial architecture and narrow cobbled streets, with a reputation for friendliness. It’s a great base to explore the outlying area including hidden ruins, native villages, hot springs and local hikes.

Tikal
Located deep in the rain forests of El Petén, Tikal National Park encompasses 222 square miles of tropical rainforest habitat. Amble among the soaring temples, palaces, ball courts and plazas while learning about the daily life of the Maya of Tikal, Guatemala. Besides the ruins, the surrounding rainforests of Tikal National Park are habitat for abundant wildlife with over 285 species of birds, plenty of howler and spider monkeys, coati, peccary, deer and more.
