A non-profit organization through which travelers can support conservation and
help indigenous people at a local level worldwide.
The Travelers Conservation Trust (TCT) was established in 1986 as a nonprofit,
affiliate organization of Wildland Adventures, Inc. on the basis that culturally
and environmentally sensitive tourism is a powerful force for conservation
and community development. The TCT identifies means by which Wildland Adventures
and our travelers can support local, small-scale projects that protect the
environment and help local communities. By inviting our travelers to be more
sensitive and conscientious guests, TCT provides an alternative to exploitative
and destructive elements of conventional tourism. This link between travel
and conservation enhances your travel experience and allows authentic cultural
encounters through learning, sharing and making a contribution.
Our Uganda safaris support the Dian
Fossey Gorilla Fund International (DFGFI), an organization
dedicated to the conservation and protection of gorillas and
their habitats in Africa. They are committed to promoting
continued research on the gorillas threatened ecosystems and
education about their relevance to the world in which we live.
In collaboration with government agencies and other international
partners, they also provide assistance to local communities
through education, training and economic development initiatives.
DFGFI supports monitoring and protecting mountain gorillas,
collecting demographic, behavioral and environmental data
in all three countries where mountain gorillas are found.
The fund promotes public awareness of gorilla conservation
on a local and international level. One of the most important
projects DGFGI has sponsored is the training and equipment
supply of rangers and trackers. These men benefit from your
membership and their communities also prosper by preserving
gorilla habitat to attract a thriving tourism enterprise.
