Season and Climate
The
best season for travel to Botswana, when it is most comfortable
and dry, is during the Southern African winter
May-October. The water levels in the Okavango Delta are
at their highest from May to September as game is concentrated
on islands creating excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.
In the dry habitats of Chobe and Linyanti to the north,
animals congregate around limited water supplies. Early
morning and evening game drives in open vehicles can be
quite cool from May-July. We recommend bringing a warm
jacket and hat on safari year round. Many of the camps
are closed from December to March when temperatures reach
100°F and rainfall can limit travel. However, some
camps offer splendid bird watching opportunities and lush
green landscapes bursting with color at this time. Larger
game species are still present in most areas but are more
dispersed.
