Tipishca Lodge

  Tipishca Lodge
Enjoy the tranquility of the jungle in a Tipishca Lodge bungalow on this Peru travel adventure.
Tipishca Lodge is a small jungle accommodation for a real Peru adventure and one of our best Peru tours. Just 3 hours down river from Puerto Maldonado by motorized dug-out canoe, the 8 palm-thatched bungalows designed in the native Piro style are situated on the banks of the beautiful Lake Tipishca. Compared to other Peru adventure tours in this region that visit bigger and more busy Amazon lodges upriver, we prefer Tipishca for its natural forest, simplicity and authenticity that you feel upon arrival and greeting by the native Piro community who are your hosts.

Tipishca Lodge was built for authentic Peru tours with the participation of the native Piro Indians and incorporates many of their traditional building style as well as some added comforts. The bungalows are open-air to the sounds of nature with large, screened windows and forest views. Each sleeps just 2 persons with en suite bath, electric lighting and outlets in all rooms. Enjoy the tranquility of the jungle on your private balcony overlooking the jungle and lake. Any time of day you can always observe an abundance of birds and mammals including a family of giant river otters as well as Brown-capuchin Monkeys, Red Howler Monkeys, Squirrel Monkeys and maybe the elusive Emperor Tamarin, along with many exotic birds such as toucans and macaws.

The main dining hall, bungalows and lake dock are connected by sandy pathways illuminated at night by low-voltage lamps. Enjoy a pisco sour and exchange stories of your day in the jungle with your naturalist guide and the native Piro staff. Tipishca Lodge specializes in delicious native dishes such as catfish either steamed with vegetables in bamboo stalks or banana leaves, or marinated in lime juice as Ceviche, Peru's national dish. Taste the local fruits of the jungle such as passion fruit, pineapple, star fruit, papaya, banana, arazar and cocona. In this way we not only enjoy the freshest produce available, but we also support the local community. If you try your luck at fishing, you may also enjoy the catch of the day!

There are plenty of maintained trails through forest, river and lake habitat around the lodge and go out to the lake by day and at night aboard a stable paddle catamaran. A ride up the Las Piedras River by motor-canoe takes guests to a macaw and parrot clay-lick, and another jungle trail to a salt lick frequented by wild pig and tapir. Close by the lodge we also visit the local Piro community to learn about indigenous life in the Amazon rainforest. Tipishca Lodge is in the ideal location for wildlife viewing. Tipishca is a cooperative, community-based Peru travel package that is managed by the  Amazon Rainforest Conservation Center, or ARCC, part of a collection of ecolodges on private reserves that protect the Amazon rainforest and offer the best Peru tours in the Amazon!
