The Laxmi Vilas Palace, located on the edge of the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, isabout five kilometers from the Bharatpur Railway Station. Built in 1887 for theyounger brother of the then ruler of Bharatpur, Maharaja Ram Singh, the palacewas converted into a Heritage Hotel in 1994 by members of the royal family.Still run by members of the Bharatpur royal family, the hotel provides fineaccommodation in beautifully designed and decorated rooms. With its 25 rooms,the hotel offers an intimate taste of the luxury of a bygone era. Hotelfacilities include restaurant, bar, laundry service, a doctor on call,swimming pool, room service, and safe deposit box. Rooms include TV, directdial phones, channeled music and travel desk. The royal family personallysupervises the kitchen, which serves continental and local delicacies.
