Rumiloma Lodge
Hacienda Rumiloma is an oasis of rustic luxury overlooking Quito, Ecuador.
This charming, romantic hacienda representing the best of Ecuador tourism
is situated in nearly one hundred acres of primary and secondary Andean
forest on the side of the Pichincha Volcano. Ideal for Ecuador adventure
travel, the hacienda backs up to thousands of acres of national park land
with scores of trails and a small river with llamas grazing. The
property also boasts a wide variety of native birds and wildlife and
unspoiled acres of primary Andean forest filled with trees and wildflowers
creating a peaceful retreat for your Ecuador holiday all within 15 minutes
of the capital city.
The main building houses a renowned restaurant featuring Ecuadorian-style
fusion cuisine. There are several cozy sitting rooms perfect for relaxing
after a long day touring in the historic center away from the hustle and
bustle of the city. Here you can enjoy an after-dinner drink while gazing
out over the lights of the city.
Each guest room at Hacienda Rumiloma is like its own little house with a
minimum of 600 sq. feet. All are filled with a unique mix of antiques,
art and collectables from the far corners of Ecuador. The guest rooms are
the epitome of rustic luxury- pot bellied stoves, colonial art, fluffy
down covers, and spectacular bath rooms all housed within hand crafted
walls of adobe and stone made from natural materials on the property. All
have cozy sitting rooms, spacious bedrooms with terraces or indoor gardens,
and the best views anywhere in Quito.
The owners, Amber and Oswaldo Freire, are perfect Ecuador adventure hosts
who pride themselves on exceptional service and personalized attention for
all their guests. Amber, an American born interior designer and amateur chef,
was living in Ireland where she owned champion racehorses and ran a children's
charity. On a trip to Ecuador to climb Cotopaxi Volcano she met and fell in
love with her husband Oswaldo, a hotelier and one of Ecuador's most
accomplished mountain climbers. After just 6 years since they first met they
managed to build not only a large family (4 girls), brought to life dream to
create a cozy, luxury adventure lodge on the hacienda that has been in Oswaldo's
family for over 60 years.
We recommend Hacienda Rumiloma for all our Ecuador tours (but especially for
romantic Ecuador honeymoons) as they have a long-standing commitment to
sustainable tourism. The Freire family has been committed to conservation for
generations, and as such has been protecting and re-planting native trees on
the property for over half a century. There are plans for the continued
protection and re-introduction of other Andean fauna with the cooperation of
local experts. Hacienda Rumiloma is fully integrated with the local community
working hand in hand with its nearby neighbors not only as hired staff, but by
purchasing from the local shops, hiring neighborhood craftsmen, and sponsoring
local football clubs, dance troops and community food halls.
