Las Torres EcoCamp
Las Torres EcoCamp is a deluxe camp of a kind never seen before in Chile.
Similar in design to the well-known permanent tented camps
in Africa, the Las Torres EcoCamp is set up at the beginning
of the season in September and dismantled in May. Although
originally created to offer more comfortable accommodations
for adventure travelers, the low-impact, comfortable dome
tent facility is designed and operated to minimize environmental
impact in the heart of Patagonia's Torres del Paine National
Park, one of South America's most spectacular hiking regions.
The priority to protect the environment requires efficient
management and use of resources in the EcoCamp. In contrast
to traditional amenities of lodges constructed in unprotected
areas outside the national park boundary (ie, private bath
with septic tank, diesel generators, daily linen changes,
etc.), the EcoCamp utilizes advanced yet simple, technologies
that encourage guests to participate in conservation by using
less water, minimizing use of limited solar energy for electricity,
employing composting toilets, room temperature based exclusively
in insulation, reducing waste, etc.
Visitors to the EcoCamp enjoy guided hikes among the granite
spires and spectacular landscape of Torres del Paine.
Two guests share a spacious domed tent, 16' wide and 7' high,
on a wooden platform raised off the ground. Built to resist
powerful Patagonian winds, rain and snow, each tent is equipped
with two single beds, towels, fleece blankets and bedding,
including a cozy down comforter. The EcoCamp also features
an enormous 30' tent combining a common living area, dining
room and kitchen. Separate bathrooms feature composting toilets
and showers with hot water. Wildland Adventures offers
several active hiking programs based from the Las Torres EcoCamp.
Visitors may enjoy guided hikes among the granite spires,
glaciers, waterfalls, lakes and
spectacular landscape of the park, habitat for exotic flora
and fauna including the guanaco, rhea, condor, penguin, fox,
and flamingo.
