San Camp welcomes guest to experience unique adventures and wildlife of the Kalahari desert. |
A safari to San Camp is a unique experience focusing on species endemic to the area such
as aardvark, gemsbuck, and springbuck. The camp is comprised of six white canvas 1940s
safari tents, with bucket showers, flush toilets, four-poster beds, mosquito net canopies,
and paraffin lamps. There is no electricity at the camp, so at night the camp is
romatically lit with oil lanterns. San Camp is one of the only two permanent camps that
offers a chance to explore and understand the Kalahari. The camp adjoins the Makgadikgadi
National Park, which boasts endless golden grasslands and a unique geological history.
Remote archaeological sites can be explored using 4wd quad bikes, and occasionally never
before documented fossil beds of extinct giant zebra and hippo are discovered. The Kalahari
is the only place where guests are virtually guaranteed to see the rare and elusive brown
hyaena and are able to walk through the Kalahari with a gang wild meerkats! Offering a
window into the past, the Bushmen teach guests how they have survived in this harshest of
environments, using ancient knowledge of plants, animal behavior, and survival skills.
