Days 1-2: Quito

Start your Galapagos adventure with a guided, half-day tour of the colonial city of Quito, a World Heritage Site. Visit busy plazas, ornate churches and rich museums and then take the afternoon and evening to explore on your own terms, stopping off at the fascinating shops, pubs and restaurants. Overnights in Hacienda Rumiloma, a charming, romantic hacienda rustic luxury on the flank of the Volcano Pichincha overlooking the city.

Day 3-4: San Cristobal

A two-hour flight brings you to the vibrant waters and lands of the Galapagos. After meeting your naturalist guide and settling in on the Coral I, you’re off to visit a tortoise-breeding center on San Cristobal to learn about the ongoing effort to return these gentle giants to the wild. The next day brings you to Cerro Brujo, a powdery-white sand beach, and to Punta Pitt, a tuff formation that serves as a nesting site for many bird species. Spend the day exploring at your own pace, snorkeling, kayaking and bird watching (point those binoculars up to see many species of boobies, petrels and gulls!). Overnights are aboard the Coral I, a modern and mid-sized yacht that features roomy cabins.

Days 5 - 6: Santiago / Bartolome

Hike through a Palo Santo forest, retracing the steps of pirates and whalers who once walked this path in search of fresh water, and reach a mangrove swamp that teems with water birds and sea turtles. In Puerto Egas, stroll with your guide along the shoreline, looking for octopus, starfish and other tidal life, and then grab a snorkel to swim amongst the hundreds of tropical fish. The next day, on the young island of Bartolome, climb stairs that lead to the summit of a once-active volcano, stopping to look at lava bombs and splatter and cinder cones. Cool off with a snorkel (or boat ride) amongst schools of tropical fish and colonies of penguins. Overnights are aboard the Coral I, a modern and mid-sized yacht that features roomy cabins.

Days 7-8: Santa Cruz/Banos

After a brief but informative visit to the renowned Charles Darwin Research Station to meet the giant tortoise "Lonesome George," the Galapagos' most famous resident, your guide returns with you to the Baltra airport for your departing flight to Quito. After arriving in Quite, you'll drive through the "Avenue of the Volcanos" to the Luna Runtun Eco-Adventure Resort, a haven of peace and luxury nestled on the slopes of still-active Tungurahua Volcano, with spectacular views of the valley and the town of Banos glittering below. Spend the next few days exploring the exciting possibilities offered at the resort. Choose from hikes, horseback riding, mountain biking, canyoneering, white water rafting, and more. Rent an ATV to head south through the Avenue of the Waterfalls, the most famous being Pailon del Diablo, a 300-ft high sheet of water cascading over a sheer granite wall. Hike through lush vegetation, observing dozens of bird species and wild orchids. Or, simply relax at the resort, utilizing one of their luxurious Jacuzzis or saunas. Days 9-10: Banos/Quito

Spend your last morning in Banos exploring more of what Luna Runtun has to offer...maybe a last soak in the jacuzzi under the morning sun, or a massage. Depart the resort and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant en-route back north to Quito. Arrive in early to mid-afternoon and check into the beautiful and stylish Hotel Le Parc for your last night in Ecuador. The following morning, transfer to the Quito airport for your international departure. Or, continue your Ecuadorian adventure with a trip to the Amazon rainforest or the Andean highlands, or a rustic lodge in the lush cloud forests surrounding Quito.
