Days 1 - 2: Victoria Falls, Livingstone

Arrive into Livingstone Airport where you will be met after passing through customs. Your afternoon is free to watch the Zambezi River flow by from Toka Leya Camp and recover from the long journey to Africa. On Day 2 you have a choice of activities including a visit to the Victoria Falls on the Zambia side, a Zambezi River cruise, tour of Livingstone town, or a game drive in Mosi oa Tunya National Park. For the more adventurous consider rafting on the Class V Zambezi River, jet boating, bungee jumping, an elephant-back safari, or one of the many other adrenaline-inducing activities available in the area (these activities at your own risk and not included). Days 3 - 5: Lower Zambezi National Park

Fly from Livingstone through Zambia’s capital, Lusaka, on your way to the Lower Zambezi National Park. Declared a National Park in 1983, Lower Zambezi lies across the river from Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park and was a private game reserve of Zambia’s president. Because of its history the park has never had many visitors and wildlife viewing is excellent. With nearly 1500 sq miles of habitat not counting the much larger game management areas that surround the park, there is plenty of room for wildlife to roam and very few people with whom to share your game viewing.

Wildlife includes lion, buffalo, many antelope species, hippos, crocodiles, and quite a few elephant families as well leopard and wild dog. Choose from day and night game drives, canoeing, game viewing by motor boat, or try your hand at catch and release tiger fishing. Overnights Kasaka River Lodge.

Days 6 - 8: South Luangwa National Park

Depart Lower Zambezi this morning for your flight to Lusaka connecting to a second flight to the South Luangwa National Park. Located in Eastern Zambia, the South Luangwa covers an incredible 3500 sq miles, making it larger than the US’s Yellowstone National Park. It was founded as a game reserve in 1938 and was designated as a National Park in 1972.

The highest concentration of wildlife is the Luangwa River and its rich vegetation. There are herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as dominant antelope species such as impala and puku. Other antelope include common waterbuck, bushbuck, eland, kudu, grysbok, oribi, reedbuck, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, sable and roan. Species such as Thornicroft's giraffe and Cookson's wildebeest occur nowhere else in the world and the area's leopard viewing is legendary. The main predators are lion, leopard, spotted hyaena and wild dogs. The dry season along the Luangwa River - when all game is forced to congregate along its banks as water resources dwindle elsewhere - is an experience every Africa fan should indulge in. High-density hippo populations dot the riverbanks while yellow baboon provide a contrast to their southern cousins.

South Luangwa is renowned as the best walking destination in Africa and guests have the choice to explore the Luangwa riverine vegetation and adjacent dambos on guided walks. Other activities include day-and-night wildlife-viewing drives. Overnights Chindeni Tented Camp.

Day 9: Departure

Transfer by safari vehicle back to the airstrip where you board your light aircraft flight to Lusaka International Airport. Connect with your onward international flights or begin one of our extensions to South Africa or Malawi.
