Guide Leo Chavez
Traveler's Corner
by Steve Broyles and Family

University professor Steve Broyles reports he had the best vacation of his life with his family giving due credit to his Wildland guide, Leo Chavez.
"Our family had the same vantage point in the van, was avidly looking for birds, but would have missed 50% of the animals that Leo found."

In-country resident expert
When you call our toll free number you'll speak directly with our Costa Rica expert, Grettel Calderon in our Costa Rica office. She knows all the national parks, and the best routes and accommodations. Cognizant with local conditions at all times, Grettel's location, skills and experience ensure that you spend more of your valuable vacation time in the field.

Get to know Tico culture
Our style of travel encourages authentic cross-cultural interactions and friendships. Examples on recent trips include arrangements we made to meet Marvin Rockwell, one of the original Quaker settlers in Monteverde, and participation in a half-day of community service tree-planting. All our local guides and drivers enjoy introducing you to "Tico" culture, often including their own family!

     Making Monteverde Greener

Planting in the communityThe Naughtin family of Seattle volunteered for a half-day community service in Monteverde to help plant native species. They contributed to a local initiative that promotes landscaping with native species while learning about tropical plants and the wildlife they attract. We organized this project through Willow Zuchowski of Pro-Nativas and author of Tropical Plants of Costa Rica: A Guide to Native and Exotic Flora.
