Why Is Trip Insurance Important*
Travel protection is designed to give you peace of mind when you invest in travel and embark on your trip. Although it covers what might be considered relatively minor headaches and costs associated with baggage loss, missed connections, and trip interruption, much more importantly you're protected in case of a medical emergency, or if you lose pre-paid, non-refundable trip deposits and payments because of cancellation or trip interruption due to illness, injury, or death of someone in your traveling party, an immediate or extended family member, or a business partner. Typically, these services and expenses are not fully covered by your credit card company, homeowner's policy, and/or medical insurance.
Below are a few key benefits that make Travelex trip insurance especially worth considering:
- Trip Cancellation/ Interruption Coverage. You will be reimbursed for any pre-paid, non-refundable payments or deposits up to the amount of coverage selected if you, a family member, traveling companion, or a business partner become ill, are injured, or die, requiring that you cancel. You will also be reimbursed for the unused portion of a trip that is interrupted for the same reasons.
- Medical Expense and Evacuation Coverage. Despite our commitment to safety and security, and the assistance you receive by our in-country partners, you assume all risks and are responsible for your own emergency care in the event of illness or accident. Many health insurance plans do not cover health care and emergency services outside the United States. Adventure travelers to remote regions may need to be transported over long distances for medical treatment. Travelers are also responsible for the cost of emergency medical evacuation (usually a private charter plane or helicopter) that can easily reach thousands of dollars.
- Pre-Existing Medical Conditions. If you, a family member (including a parent or grandparent), or a business partner, has a pre-existing health condition that raises concerns in relation to your travel plans, you can be protected for trip cancellation/interruption if the condition is medically stable, if you purchase insurance within 21 days of your initial trip deposit, and you insure for the full cost of your trip.
- Family Travel. Children under 16 are automatically covered when traveling with an adult insured with Travelex. Trip insurance is especially recommended for families because the investment for the total trip cost is high and so is the risk that illness or injury of one family member will jeopardize the entire trip for the whole family, especially if young children are involved. Furthermore, in the event of illness or injury abroad, parents want their children treated by the best medical specialists regardless of the cost of treatment or transport expense.
- 24-Hour, Worldwide Hotline Assistance. Travelex offers a high level of personal assistance through its 24-hour, collect-call or toll-free hotline accessible throughout the world. The hotline center staff can assist with medical, legal and travel-related emergencies. They can even arrange for an on-site hospital visit to assure proper treatment and guarantee payment.
We cannot emphasize strongly enough the value of purchasing the Travel Plus Plan based on the total cost of your trip. Our recommendation to purchase insurance is based on many years of experience organizing adventure trips.
