Explore the rain forests of Tortuguero by day and observe nesting sea turtles at night.
Your most unforgettable night out will be a late night beach walk tonight to observe giant Atlantic Green sea turtles laying eggs in the sand. You will be escorted by the best Tortuguero guides to view the turtle nesting process up close. Before witnessing this process, you can visit the outstanding Caribbean Conservation Corporation’s museum in the village of Tortuguero to learn about the natural history of these ancient reptiles.

DAY 3 - TORTUGUERO NATIONAL PARK
Wildlife viewing in the Tortuguero waterways is excellent and today you’ll explore this watery wonderland with a local naturalist guide. Originally intended to protect a major nesting beach of the Atlantic green sea turtle, Tortuguero National Park now protects 51,870 acres, one of the last large areas of tropical rain forest in Central America. Eleven habitats are found in the park. Three species of monkeys, three-toed sloth, and caiman are frequently seen along the natural inland waterways and canals. Iguanas, river turtles, basilisk lizards, and poison dart frogs inhabit the area. More than 320 species of birds including all 6 species of kingfishers found in the new world, and 8 species of parrots, inhabit and visit Tortuguero’s forests. Overnight Tortuga Lodge [BLD]

DAY 4 - LUNA LODGE
Get up early this morning for the transfer across the lagoon to the Tortuguero airstrip. A 45 minute small airplane flight will take you back to San Jose where you’ll connect to a second flight to Puerto Jimenez on the Osa Peninsula. DAYS 5-6 - LUNA LODGE
Spend these days exploring the tropical rain forest at Luna Lodge. Included are two hikes, a waterfall hike and the prime ridge trail hike. The waterfall hike is a short guided hike to two different waterfalls, one of which is great for a dip. Along the way you’ll look for monkeys, sloth, and tiny poison dart frogs that live near the wetness of the river. The Prime Ridge Trail is s longer 4-6 hour hike with a naturalist guide through the primary forest surrounding Luna Lodge. Climb up the ridge next to the lodge and then wind along the undulating terrain and eventually down to the beach near Carate where a box lunch will be waiting for you. Along the way you will look for three species of monkeys, two types of peccaries, and the many other diverse species of wildlife that may present themselves. The views from the ridge tops are excellent, and a cool dip in the ocean at the completion of the hike is a great ending. Overnights at Luna Lodge [BLD]

DAY 7 - MONTEVERDE CLOUD FOREST
This morning transfer to the airstrip at Carate for your return flight to Puerto Jimenez and on to San José. Upon arrival you’ll be met by your driver for the 4-5 hour drive to the Monteverde area starting toward the Pacific Ocean along the Pan-American Highway.
