WILDLAND ADVENTURES ANNOUNCES NEW ZEALAND
TOP-2-BOTTOM ADVENTURE
October 7, 2003
Seattle, WA > Now travellers can explore the hidden
wonders of New
Zealand from the top of the North Island to the bottom
of the South Island on Wildland Adventures’ most
active and adventurous trip down under. Avid outdoor Kiwi
guides lead travelers off the beaten path introducing visitors
to local communities and Maori culture in their favorite
pristine natural areas. They reveal hidden beaches for
snorkeling and boogie-boarding, lead hikes through ancient
rain forests and active volcanoes, mountain biking in the
Southern Alps, and kayaking among tranquil lakes, streams
and coastlines.
Traveling in a small group (no more than 9) with all the
necessary gear: bikes, kayaks, body boards, snorkeling
gear (scuba gear is optional), each day’s adventures
are chosen by guests and their guide. If participants wish
to kayak or mountain bike, Wildland Adventures’ guides
will find the best route in the area. Trip leaders provide
basic instruction in all the activities available. This
trip is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts including families
with active teens.
Highlights of the Top-2-Bottom Adventure include kayaking,
surfing and snorkeling in the hundreds of secluded beaches,
coves and clear waters of New Zealand; pristine places
such as the Bay of Islands, Marlborough Sound, Abel Tasman
National Park plus an overnight cruise in Milford Sound
beneath the towering Mitre Peak. The route passes through
Auckland, New Zealand’s largest and most multi-cultural
city, Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city, and
Queenstown, the “Adventure Capital of the World.” Hiking
and exploration opportunities also abound in places such
as Coromandel Peninsula, Tongariro National Park, Punakakai,
Fox Glacier and Mt. Aspiring National Park, a World Heritage
Area, with some of the best mountain scenery in New Zealand.
Special highlights of the adventure are personal encounters
with the Maori culture. Wildland Adventures’ local
Maori hosts share their rich culture and history with a
traditional feast, called a Hungi, cooked beneath the ground
on hot rocks.
Accommodations include comfortable holiday homes and cottages
in close proximity to natural areas, complete with kitchen
facilities. The price includes all ground transportation
during the tour, guide services, meals, accommodations,
equipment, programmed activities and Wildland Adventures’ pre-departure
consultation and services. The 21-day adventure starts
at $3,800 per person, depending on group size. Departure
dates include December 15, 2003 to January 4, 2004, January
5 to 25, February 9 to 29 and March 1 to 21, 2004. Shorter,
11-day segments of the trip in the North or South Island
are also available, starting at $2,000 per person.
