Trekking Like Inca Royalty To Machu Picchu
Wildland Adventures Launches New Lodge-to-Lodge Trek in Peru
Seattle, WA— Make history by joining Wildland President, Kurt Kutay on this first-time exploratory 20th Anniversary adventure Machu Picchu Mountain Lodges Trek through the Andes of Peru. This premier 10 day trek will take place from July 21st through July 31st, 2007. In addition to taking part in this physical, cultural, and spiritual journey, participants will also participate in a film production taking home a professional DVD movie of the experience! Wildland's new lodge-to-lodge trek takes travelers along ancient footpaths through the high Andes en route to the legendary ruins of Machu Picchu. Participants will trek in style from lodge to lodge while hiking along a spectacular route in the Cordillera Vilcabamba. Follow paths under towering snow-capped peaks dominated by Mt. Salcantay (20,574), the sacred Apu of local Quechua communities to be visited along the way. Working closely with local communities, Wildland Adventures has made special arrangements for participants to share in the culture and customs of native Quechua families who maintain age-old traditions.
Like Inca royalty, travelers spend nights in the comfort of well-appointed trekkers' lodges equipped with private rooms, sauna, Jacuzzi, reading room, and a cozy fireplace. Guests will dine on exceptional international and Peruvian cuisine to complete the experience. This less traveled, challenging route is a more spectacular high Andean trek than the popular Inca Trail and features the revitalizing minerals of a natural hot springs.
From bamboo jungles to hanging glaciers, the route passes through 9 biozones, so trekkers need to be prepared for variable mountain conditions. The 11-day itinerary begins in Lima and includes two days of acclimatization while touring Inca ruins and native markets in Cusco and the Urubamba Valley before starting the trek. The first two nights of the trek are spent at the Salkantay Lodge on Soraypampa. Spending this time at the 11,800 ft elevation allows for extra days of acclimatization before hiking over the highest pass at 15,000ft. The main Salkantay Lodge has 12 private double rooms, but trekking groups are limited in size by each trekker lodge that has just 6 rooms, all with private bath and hot shower.
In addition to the special July 21st through July 31st , 2007 inaugural departure, Wildland Adventures is offering monthly departures to be announced on their website at www.wildland.com.
