WILDLAND ADVENTURES ANNOUNCES
GALAPAGOS HONEYMOON ODYSSEY
May 21, 2003
Seattle, WA > As couples embark on a
lifetime together, what better place than
the Galapagos to witness first-hand the
amazing cycle of life, where Charles Darwin
formulated his evolutionary theory The
Origin of Species. This year, newlyweds
can join Wildland Adventures on a 13-day
Galapagos Honeymoon Odyssey that showcases
the island archipelago and features an
escape to a romantic getaway high in the
Andes. One of the most beguiling places
on Earth, the Galapagos is ideal for active
and inquisitive couples who share a love
for nature. By day, guests can hike, snorkel
and commune with an incredible array of
wildlife. By night, couples enjoy fine
dining, wine and natural history lectures
by on-board naturalists.
The adventure begins with a private half-day
city tour of colonial Quito, designated
by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Couples
fly 600 miles off shore to embark on a
small yacht and spend eight days cruising
Darwins Enchanted Islands. Voyaging
from island to island is a showcase of
evolution as expert naturalist guides
point out the unique behavioral and physical
characteristics plants and animals have
developed as they evolve and adapt to
each unique island habitat. All trips
make two shore landings each day and include
visits to the Charles Darwin Research
Center where the giant tortoise is bred
and released into the wild. Wildland Adventures
represents exclusively smaller yachts
(8-20 passengers) selected from a fleet
of only the most modern, safe and comfortable
first class or deluxe vessels, assuring
the highest quality and most in-depth
natural history small group experience
in the archipelago.
The finale is a romantic journey into the
high Andes with a private guide, where
couples stay at a restored colonial hacienda,
the Pinsaqui. First constructed in 1790,
Hacienda Pinsaqui is located 5 km north
of the Indian town of Otavalo and offers
a stunning view of Mt. Imbabura volcano.
The haciendas luxurious suites feature
a fireplace, Jacuzzi bath and sleeping
loft. Lush gardens overlook a lake on
the grounds, which include an historic
chapel. Horseback riding, hiking to native
villages, and mountain biking are just
a few of the options available to guests.
The Galapagos Honeymoon Odyssey starts
at $3,660 per person and is offered nearly
year round. Itineraries include airport
transfers, round-trip flights from Quito
to Galapagos, a private guided tour of
Quito, three nights hotel accommodations
in Quito, guided excursions, all meals
on the 8-day cruise, transportation to
and from Otavalo, hotel accommodations
in Otavalo, and a comprehensive pre-departure
information packet. For dates and more

###
Since its inception in 1986, ecotourism
has been the cornerstone of Wildland Adventures
trips, offering cultural and natural history
explorations as a means to protect natural
environments, preserve cultural heritage
and bring direct economic benefits to
local communities through projects such
as the companys non-profit Travelers
Conservation Trust. Always practicing
what it preaches, Wildland Adventures
keeps its trips to very small groups in
order to limit any impact on the environment.
Owner Kurt Kutay is a founding member
of the Board of Directors of The Ecotourism
Society and the International Galapagos
Tour Operators Association. The company
is also a member of the Center for Responsible
Tourism, a worldwide network of individuals
and organizations working for more socially
and environmentally responsible tourism
and supports the work of Cultural Survival,
which serves to inform the general public
and policy makers about self-determination
of tribal people and ethnic minorities.
Other destinations offered by Wildland
Adventures include Costa Rica, Belize,
the Andes and the Amazon, Patagonia, Alaska,
British Columbia, Africa, New Zealand
