National Geographic Traveler "Tours of a Lifetime"

04.02.2012

25 years ago, we set out organizing adventure trips to share places in the world that we loved; to create the most memorable and meaningful experiences for our travelers which also preserve the places and help the people we visit. And while there is no greater reward than hearing our travelers (you!) rave about their Wildland Adventures, it's also a nice affirmation when the most well-respected travel magazine recognizes one of our adventures. For six years, National Geographic Traveler has been scouring the globe for the most authentic, most innovative, most immersive, best-guided, and most sustainable tours for their annual "Tours of a Lifetime" issue. We are proud that four Wildland Adventure tours have been recognized for this prestigious honor.

"The outfitters we selected continue to find new ways travelers can connect with places and people," notes National Geographic Traveler senior editor Norie Quintos. "More and more, it's about human interaction."

Tigers and Travels in India, 2011 Tour of Lifetime
Search for illusive tigers in the famed Bandhavgarh and Kanha National Parks where we meet with tiger conservationists, walk among rural villages of Rajasthan, and dine in a family home with descendants of a royal family who share insights of their daily life.

Voyaging Among the Dodecanese of Greece and Turkey, 2009 Tour of a Lifetime
By virtue of our Kutay family Turkish heritage, you'll be received as friends and family by our exceptional Turkish guides who share their deep and intimate knowledge of the region's history and archaeology. You'll also gain personal insights into the daily rhythms of life as you hike along coastal footpaths between small Greek and Turkish villages, discover ancient ruins, and sample delectable Turkish and Greek cuisine.

Maasailand Safari: Living Among the Maasai, 2007 Tour of a Lifetime
After a chance encounter in Seattle with a Maasai leader, Meitamei Dapash (now a candidate for Parliament in Kenya), we developed this community-based adventure after establishing deep relationships with Maasai communities in Kenya and Tanzania. As guests in the native community Merrushi, we explore the African savanna on foot with Maasai warriors, share stories with elders, discuss world issues of common concern, and learn about wildlife conservation, traditional healing, music and dance.

Undiscovered Belize Adventure, 2006 Tour of a Lifetime
Featuring plenty of what Belize is known for - rainforest, reefs and ruins! 20 years ago, Wildland pioneered ecotourism in the remote southern Toledo District. Today, on this exceptional adventure, we hike verdant paths teeming with exotic flora and fauna; learn how the native Maya communities make fair trade chocolate and traditional instruments; and then snorkel and swim in the crystalline waters above the second largest barrier reef in the world.
