Owned by painter Elsa Guiraldes - granddaughter of an important Argentine poet - Posada de la Laguna is a 7-room haven on the edge of the Ibera wetlands that is both elegant and intimate, allowing guests to connect with nature. Gardens run all the way down to the lagoon and hammocks on vine-covered verandas beckon you during siesta hour. Home to more than 350 species of bird, these wetlands are a birders paradise. Local gauchos lead you on horseback and boat trips throughout the marshes, or venture out on your own via canoe or bicycle. The outdoor pool provides a refreshing diversion from the afternoon heat. Rooms are light and airy with wooden beams and wicker furniture. WiFi is, amazingly, available throughout. Meals are fresh and healthy, with much of the produce coming from an organization that trains local people to grow organic products.
