A Costa Rica Trip to Remember
My seven-year old son and I have just returned from the Family Vacation Tour of Costa Rica, and we are still on a high from our amazing trip. Despite the fact that the trip was initially threatened by a severe flight delay, the folks at Wildland worked to accommodate us and make sure we caught up to our traveling companions. From the moment we touched down in Costa Rica, the fun never stopped. The highlights included nature walks, hot springs, zip lining, and, of course, spotting wildlife. We had an absolutely fantastic guide, Onik, who immediately charmed us with her enthusiasm and knowledge, and her palpable love for her country. When I travel, I generally prefer to visit friends who can show me the real scene, not just the tourist spots, and I nearly felt that way with Onik. The trip felt intimate and special, even with an itinerary that included the hotspots of Arenal and Manuel Antonio. We were impressed with our luxurious accommodations (we wished we could have stayed longer at the wonderful Villa Blanca). Our terrific driver, Victor, had enormous patience with the kids on the trip (ages 2, 7, and 10) as well as the adults, and an uncanny ability to spot wildlife along the road.
The sights, sounds, smells and sensations of Costa Rica will stay with us for a long time. The flora and fauna are absolutely spectacular, and I was constantly in awe of the incredible adaptations of its plants and animals. Underscored by Onik's commentary, I gained a deeper appreciation for the wonders of nature, and the special gifts that Costa Rica has to offer.
