Located in Kumily, a small settlement 3k from Thekkady, the main entrance to the Periyar Tiger Reserve, the 5 star Spice Village offers delightful cottages with thatched roofs of elephant grass set in a pepper plantation. Opened in 1992, a unique selection of regional spices have been planted amongst the cottages creating an authentic spice hills environment. Resort facilities include a bar buffet restaurant, swimming pool, shops, efficient laundry service, money exchange etc. All rooms are equipped with terracotta floor tiles, wooden beds and chairs (all furniture is crafted using pine from Cochin's historic docks), a telephone, a fan, an en suite private bathroom. Each cottage has its own verandah and is set in its own land.
