Eric, Flamingo and Letty

The Eric, Flamingo and Letty is a modern fleet of three sister motor yachts custom-designed exclusively for touring Galapagos. These superior, first-class 83-foot vessels provide the greatest overall value in Galapagos yachts considering their on-board amenities, cabin quality, variability in berth configurations, passenger-to-guide ratio (10-1 or less) and reasonable price. We've been working with this signature fleet of three Galapagos boats more consistently than any other vessels in the Galapagos Islands. Refurbished annually, three decks of well-appointed and spacious staterooms feature polished teak and brass detailing. The interior common areas are clean and bright with air-conditioning throughout and large picture windows for spectacular panoramic views. A wide variety of international and Ecuadorian specialties are served in the natural light of the spacious dining room. The conference room and separate lounge with fully stocked bar provide ample public area space for daily briefings together and a place where adults and young people can gather to watch movies or play games. These Galapagos yachts are self-contained and ecologically sound, and are equipped for noise-reduction and fuel-efficiency. False keels provide stability to ensure a smooth ride.

Capacity / Accommodations:

Ten double-capacity, outside cabins all have a window or porthole view, and are fully air-conditioned with private bath, hot/cold water shower, hair dryer, closet, drawers and an intercom.

The Dolphin Deck is the top deck complete with four double cabins with picture windows. Three of these cabins have two twin lower beds and one cabin has one double bed. Dolphin Deck are the only cabin windows that open.

The Booby Deck is the middle deck, with two cabins with picture windows. Both cabins have one double bed.

The Iguana Deck is the lower deck with four cabins and portholes. Two cabins have two twin lower beds, and two cabins have two twin lower beds with one upper berth to accommodate 3 people.

Specialty Departures for Families and Women:

Some of our departures are designated Galapagos family adventures which are designed to immerse you and your children in a living laboratory of nature and history. On our Galapagos family vacation your children will have the opportunity to swim with playful sea lions, encounter comical Blue-Footed Boobies, sit next to gigantic tortoises and prehistoric-looking iguanas, and have many other close interactions with friendly wildlife. Our talented naturalist guides are specially chosen for their entertaining, outgoing personalities and their natural ability to demonstrate scientific concepts of evolution and adaptation; and they enjoy relating tales about Darwin's explorations, pirate exploits, volcanic eruptions, and the amazing characteristics and behavior of Galapagos wildlife. Our designated Galapagos family adventures include entertaining activities to help keep young people happy and engaged throughout the 8-day voyage. Special menus offer familiar fare and libraries are stocked with fun educational games and videos. Also ask about occasional women's only voyages.

Crew and Amenities :

Included on this Galapagos trip are complimentary use of snorkeling equipment and wetsuits (reserve ahead for odd sizes). Each of these Galapagos yachts also has two clear-bottom tandem kayaks; a great way to get up-close with marine Galapagos wildlife. Optional scuba dive packages are also available for certified scuba divers for two days of diving. This Galapagos expedition is operated by a seasoned captain, eight dedicated crew members, and two experienced English-speaking naturalist guides trained by the Galapagos Islands National Park Service and Charles Darwin Research Center.

Safety and Environment:

All equipment meets SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and ISM standards. On board each yacht is a VIKING 25-person inflatable capsule lifeboat, 40 life vests with whistles and fluorescent markers, 10 circular buoys, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, automatic radio buoy via satellite and an EPIRB (emergency position indicator radio beacon). All crewmembers are experienced and trained by ISM and in the regulations that local, Navy and National Park authorities require.

SmartVoyager Certification

The Eric, Flamingo and Letty were among the first Galapagos yachts to receive SmartVoyager certification under a program of environmental management established by the Rainforest Alliance. Standards were designed in collaboration with scientists, conservation experts and tour operators, and cover a host of environmental and social concerns. They protect against potential sources of pollution; set rules for the good management of docks, tour boats and the small craft that ferry passengers out to the boats; specify criteria for the procurement and management of supplies; and defend against opportunities for introducing alien species. For local people and workers, these standards require good living conditions and advanced training for the boat crew and guides.

These Galapagos yachts meet the following standards:

  • Use of lead-free paint.
  • Use of only biodegradable soaps, detergents and shampoos.
  • Implementation of a waste-disposal system, including recycling bins.
  • Production of fresh water through the use of a desalinization plant, a method that purifies water with ozone and eliminates chlorine discharge into the ocean.
  • Treatment of black and gray wastewater under aerobic decomposition.
  • Installation of light bulbs that do not attract insects to prevent the introduction of nonnative species to the islands.
  • Replacement of two-stroke outboard motors on dinghies with four-stroke engines that are 70% quieter, emit virtually no fumes and use 50% less fuel.
  • Guarantee of sanitary conditions -- as well as a good quality of life -- for all crew members.
