Adventure Travel Program Director, Full Time: Asia

Work with a large degree of autonomy in a collaborative team atmosphere to deliver personalized customer service and an exceptional guest experience while directing sales and administration of group and individual travel arrangements for destinations in SE Asia and the Indian sub-continent. These destinations primarily include India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Indonesia. Travel and/or destination management experience in the region is required, but will consider tele-commute from remote location.  

Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience as a travel professional with strong industry knowledge and experience in active/specialty trip development and sales, tour operations and guest services
  • a working knowledge of travel and tourism in SE Asia and the Indian sub-continent including adventure travel logistics, local tour operators, accommodations and related tourism services throughout the region
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills are essential with a record of exceptional customer service

Summary of Primary Duties

Apply detailed destination knowledge, field experience, and sales skills to develop trusted and confident customer relationship and design creative personalized itineraries. Responsible for performance management and accountability for proven best practices (quick response times, follow-ups, high quality client-centric communication, and effective use of systems and tools.

Destination Sales and Itinerary Development

Apply detailed destination knowledge, field experience, and sales skills to develop trusted and confident customer relationship and ability to research, create, proof-read and edit professional travel documents. Responsible for performance management and accountability for proven best practices including quick response times, follow-ups, high quality client-centric communication, and effective use of systems and tools.

Destination Marketing

Conceptualize marketing strategy for the region; develop competitive positioning and rationale for each itinerary; provide marketing content for printed brochures, website, Enews and special promotions; prepare public travel presentations.

Client and Operator Pre-Departure Services

Oversee client reservations database and electronic files; maintain pre-departure documents with the operations team and respond to customer pre-departure queries. Confirm in-country tour services with ground operators; help coordinate destination air services as needed.

Client and Supplier Accounts Management

Oversee client accounts receivable. Negotiate rates, request quotes for itineraries, and oversee payments to contracted suppliers with operations management team.

Travel Program Development

Develop new travel programs, itineraries and meaningful travel experiences collaborating with in-country suppliers and guides, including FAM trips/trade shows.

Conservation and Community Development

Oversee local conservation and community development projects supported by trip proceeds.  Connect interested clients with company-supported conservation and community projects.

Position Benefits

Compensation: Salary BOE plus performance based incentives.
Benefits: Major medical, travel, paid holidays and sick leave, vacations, optional bi-weekly 4-day work week.
Travel: Program Directors travel an average of 2-4 weeks per year on educational trips to develop and maintain detailed destination knowledge for sales and program development expertise.
