Africa Program Director - Full Time
SUMMARY OF PRIMARY DUTIES Destination Sales
Apply highly detailed destination knowledge, field experience, and sales skills to develop a professional and personal customer relationship primarily via phone and email helping to plan their trip of a lifetime.
- Destination Marketing
Conceptualize marketing strategy for the region; develop competitive positioning and rationale for each itinerary; provide marketing content for printed brochures, web, Enews and special promotions; public travel presentations.
- Client and Operator Pre-Departure Services
Oversee client reservations database and electronic files; maintain pre-departure documents with the operations team and respond to customer pre-departure trip queries. Confirm in-country services with ground operators; assist with destination air services as needed.
- Client and Supplier Accounts Management
Oversee client accounts receivable with operations manager. Negotiate rates, request quotes for itineraries, and oversee payments to contracted suppliers.
Travel Program Development
Develop new travel programs, itineraries and meaningful travel experiences collaborating with in-country suppliers and guides, including FAM trips/trade shows.
Conservation and Community Development
Oversee local conservation and community development projects supported by trip proceeds. Connect interested clients with company-supported conservation and community projects.
The Africa Program Director works together as part of a team responsible for sales and administration of group and individual travel arrangements for designated destinations in Africa primarily including Botswana, Zambia, South Africa, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe..
Qualifications for this position include at least 2 years experience in travel sales, tour operations and administration with commercial adventure travel field experience in African safaris. Detailed knowledge of accommodations, parks and wildlife reserves, and safari tourism services including land and air travel logistics. Additional requirements include exceptional written and verbal business communications skills, excellent grammar and English language ability, highly organized and detail-oriented, vibrant and confident telephone presence, and versatility in defining and completing a variety of tasks. Computer proficiency required.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience
Benefits: Major medical, travel, paid holidays and sick leave, vacations, optional bi-weekly 4-day work week.
Travel: Program Directors travel an average of 2-4 weeks per year on educational trips to develop and maintain detailed destination knowledge for sales and program development expertise.

Program Directors travel an average of 2-4 weeks per year on educational trips to develop and maintain detailed destination knowledge for sales and program development expertise.
